About the role
The Biology Department at Wesleyan University seeks an assistant professor of the practice (non-tenure-track) with broad training in biology beginning July 1, 2027. This position will have a 3-2 teaching load. The candidate will primarily be responsible for teaching sections of introductory biology lecture and lab, including genetics and molecular biology. We seek a colleague who will engage with science education research and apply that knowledge to their pedagogy. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience teaching to diverse student populations. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as an Assistant Professor of the Practice; a successful candidate may be hired as an Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but will complete the Ph.D. in Biology or related field within one year of hire. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students, and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level We are searching for an individual who can contribute to our undergraduate curriculum and is committed to liberal arts education in a culturally diverse campus community. Wesleyan University is a selective liberal-arts university with Ph.D. programs in Natural Sciences and Mathematics and in Music. The departmental and multidisciplinary programs provide a stimulating, interactive intellectual environment supported by excellent teaching and research facilities.
