Posting number: 26-20210 Department: MBTA - Power Systems Maintenance Division: 341-Transmission & Distribution Job classification: Supervisor of Transmission & Distribution Construction Posting type: Open/External and Promotional/Internal Categories: Construction Maintenance Summary The Supervisor of Transmission & Distribution Construction will assist in the assignment, oversight, and direction of the activities of the work crews under their jurisdiction, including supervising the personnel and resources involved in the maintenance and construction of overhead and underground power lines and equipment. Examples of duties Responsible for inspecting the maintenance and construction of Transmission and Distribution projects and power facilities to ensure that the facilities conform with recommended maintenance and repair standards. Lead and maintain close coordination with Authority Engineers and Consultants regarding the design and construction of new power facilities and input regarding the maintenance of proposed installations and products. Assign daily work for crews performing maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and DC distribution systems. Remain current with the MBTA safety plan as well as the positions outline responsibilities. Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner. Participate in the recruitment, training, discipline, and promotion of personnel. Inspect and ensure that all inventory levels, equipment, and facilities under their control are protected in a safe operating condition. Assume the duties of the Superintendent as needed. Ensure the safety of passengers and employees through the enforcement of Authority standards and policies. Communicate with Authority top management and other Authority departments regarding line activities and problems. Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and assist at emergencies and events, and/or transport crews or equipment as needed. Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or coworker in a courteous and professional manner. Work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed. Respond, either directly or through others, to emergencies twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees. Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Antidiscrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti Retaliation policies Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned Additional responsibilities may include focus on one or more departments or locations. Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution. Five (5) years of experience in transportation equipment repair and maintenance and/or in the administration of the maintenance and repair of a fleet of transportation vehicles. Five (5) years of related experience in a supervisory capacity. Effective organizational and analytical skills. Ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MCRS (Rail Focus) or similar tracking system, database, PeopleSoft, and Mainframe applications. Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills. The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience. Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed. Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. The ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce. A valid Driver’s License.
