Job Summary: The Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will provide health, safety, and environmental accountability, leadership, and subject matter expertise for American Battery Solutions’ (“ABS”) dynamic and rapidly growing facility. This position will be responsible for creating and continuing a safety culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and ownership. The Senior EHS Specialist will evaluate working conditions, develop and execute site-wide EHS strategies, and lead the EHS initiatives of the site, while ensuring compliance with government and company regulations. This role serves as the primary EHS contact for the facility, influencing organizational decisions, driving risk reduction initiatives, and partnering with leadership to achieve operational excellence through proactive safety and environmental performance.   Responsibilities: Prepare, review, and oversee facility compliance reporting requirements, including the preparation and submission of Tier II Reports. Lead the strategic management, continuous improvement, and audit readiness of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 Environmental Management System. Must be able to develop and review Environmental Operating Procedures. Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of policies, procedures, programs, training, and implementation tools to maintain a safe work environment and strong environmental stewardship. Provide oversight for the maintenance and accuracy of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) logs, medical records, training records, and all other safety and environmental records. Lead and ensure site-wide compliance with corporate EHS requirements while driving continuous improvement initiatives to exceed compliance standards. Analyze, benchmark, and drive improvement of organizational and facility-specific EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), providing recommendations and performance updates to leadership. Lead and facilitate injury case management, providing strategic oversight to ensure appropriate care, regulatory compliance, and positive outcomes for the facility. Lead comprehensive evaluations of operations and equipment to identify hazards, develop risk mitigation strategies, recommend proper controls, and ensure effective implementation of corrective actions. Lead and facilitate safety incident/mishap investigations to ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented, while identifying systemic trends and driving long-term risk reduction initiatives. Partner with EHS leadership, safety committees, and external providers to oversee and ensure completion of all required medical monitoring and testing. Work in partnership with leadership teams to ensure all safety control measures and regulations are included in capital projects, facility expansions, process changes, and equipment installations. Lead and facilitate safety communication actions for plant-wide distribution, ensuring consistent messaging that supports employee engagement and a proactive safety culture. Provide strategic direction for accomplishing an injury-free culture and advancing organizational EHS performance objectives. Lead and facilitate contractor safety expectations and training, including oversight of contractor compliance and risk management activities. Lead the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) evaluations, hazard assessments, new equipment safety assessments, and review work instructions to establish effective safety controls, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Provide effective and appropriate guidance to the leadership team and safety committees, serving as a trusted advisor on EHS strategy, compliance, and risk management. Partner with operations leadership to support manufacturing objectives through the integration of EHS best practices and risk reduction measures. Promote and drive a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible working environment throughout the facility. Adhere to federal and state regulations. Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures. Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.  Predictable and reliable attendance. Position Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in EHS or a related field; or equivalent experience. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field. Experience with Lithium-ion batteries preferred. Ability to work independently as well as in a team and manage multiple projects and prioritize workload. Results-driven individual who has demonstrated the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Displays a customer-focused work ethic with the ability to interact with all levels of employees. Experience with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E and electrical safety standards Ability to perform audits and hazard assessments of all areas including but not limited to the facility, manufacturing, testing, and build areas. Able to perform classroom and on-the-job training for EHS topics. Working knowledge of Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management systems including OHSAS 18001, ISO14001, and TS16949. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment.  Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen.  May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead.  The person in this position needs to occasionally move about in industrial environments and on uneven terrain.  Works in a temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions, and in industrial environments. May be required to travel to and navigate a variety of sites to fully understand material needs. Must be able to manipulate equipment for calibration and modification. Excellent depth perception and reaction time. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and stretching. Must be able to bend, lift, stretch, stoop, push, pull, stand, and carry as needed to inspect, service, and operate machinery, equipment, and gauges. May need to work overtime in emergencies or tight deadlines. Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines and inspect parts produced. Must have good hand/eye coordination. Ability to maintain single task focus and situational awareness. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand. The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud. The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations. The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day. Ability to travel (20%) to the facility in Springboro, Ohio.
