Senior Business Intelligence Developer Reports to: Senior Executive Director - Business Systems Salary: $86,673-$104,426 Pay Grade: 506 Duty Days: 239 FLSA Status: Exempt PC#: 26445 and 26446 POSITION PURPOSE Leads the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-level dashboards and reports that support districtwide decision-making on operational efficiency, and strategic initiatives. Develops scalable business intelligence and analytics solutions using Microsoft Power BI and Azure data services while ensuring adherence to data governance, security, and compliance best practices. Partners with stakeholders to gather requirements, transform complex data into meaningful visualizations, and deliver actionable insights that enable informed, data-driven decisions. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Leads the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise-wide business intelligence solutions using Microsoft Power BI, Azure data services, and related Microsoft technologies. Develops and maintains scalable semantic models, datasets, dataflows, and dashboards that provide actionable insights to executive leadership, district departments, and operational teams. Collaborates with business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document reporting requirements; translates business needs into effective data models, visualizations, and analytical solutions. Designs and implements interactive dashboards, scorecards, and key performance indicator (KPI) reporting solutions that support strategic planning, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making. Develops complex DAX calculations, measures, and performance-optimized data models to support advanced analytics and reporting requirements. Designs, builds, and optimizes Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL/ELT) processes using Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), or similar technologies. Monitors and optimizes Power BI performance, capacity utilization, refresh schedules, and report efficiency to ensure reliability and scalability. Conducts testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis to resolve data quality, reporting, and system performance issues. Implements and maintains row-level security (RLS), workspace administration, data access controls, and compliance with organizational security policies. Evaluates emerging business intelligence technologies, Microsoft platform enhancements, and industry best practices to recommend and implement continuous improvements. Develops technical documentation, data dictionaries, user guides, and training materials to support system sustainability and user adoption. Participates in strategic planning initiatives and contributes expertise regarding data architecture, reporting strategy, analytics maturity, and enterprise business intelligence roadmaps. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of Microsoft Power BI, including report development, semantic modeling, dataflows, deployment pipelines, workspace administration, and governance. Knowledge of data modeling concepts, dimensional modeling techniques, star and snowflake schemas, and business intelligence architecture. Knowledge of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), Power Query (M), and SQL programming. Knowledge of Microsoft Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, and related cloud-based analytics technologies.? Knowledge of ETL/ELT methodologies, data integration techniques, and data warehousing best practices. Knowledge of data governance frameworks, metadata management, master data management, and data quality standards. Knowledge of information security principles, data privacy regulations, access controls, and compliance requirements related to enterprise reporting environments. Knowledge of dashboard design principles, data visualization best practices, and user experience concepts. Knowledge of organizational performance measurement, key performance indicators (KPIs), and strategic planning processes. Skill in designing, developing, and deploying enterprise-scale Power BI dashboards, reports, and analytical solutions. Skill in creating complex DAX calculations, measures, KPIs, and performance-optimized data models. Skill in integrating data from multiple sources, including ERP systems, student information systems, human resources, finance, operations, and external data repositories.? Skill in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and data transformations. Skill in troubleshooting and resolving reporting, data quality, and performance issues. Skill in analyzing business requirements and translating them into scalable technical solutions. Skill in presenting technical and analytical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Skill in managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Skill in documenting technical processes, data definitions, and reporting standards. Ability to transform complex datasets into meaningful visualizations and actionable business insights. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with executive leadership, stakeholders, technical staff, and end users. Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and facilitate consensus among diverse stakeholder groups. Ability to analyze complex business problems and develop innovative, data-driven solutions. Ability to exercise sound judgment when handling confidential and sensitive information. Ability to interpret organizational goals and align analytics solutions to strategic objectives. Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to independently lead business intelligence projects from requirements gathering through implementation and support. Ability to adapt to evolving technologies, business needs, and organizational priorities. Ability to train, mentor, and support users and technical staff in the effective use of business intelligence tools and data resources. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals. Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching. Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds). Environment: Works in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours. Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours, including evenings and weekends. Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; regularly required to speak publicly or listen intently to other points of view. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: (See approved combinations of Education & Experience below) Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required; Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in a related field preferred. Certification/License: Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) preferred. Experience: 4-8 years' experience developing and deploying enterprise-level Power BI solutions required including the following experience: o Designing and implementing semantic models, dashboards, reports, and analytical solutions using Microsoft Power BI (including DAX and Power Query). o Developing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and database solutions. o Integrating data from multiple enterprise systems and data sources. o Gathering business requirements and translating them into technical solutions. o Working with cloud-based data platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure data services.
