Part-Time Library Technician

Posting number: 05193 Department: Library Job classification: Library Technician (Part-Time) Posting type: Open Categories: Library Summary There are three positions located in two libraries. One position is at the Powder Springs Library, a community library located within the Ford Center Campus in downtown Powder Springs  The other two positions are at South Cobb Regional Library, a busy regional hub located near the intersection of Floyd and Clay Roads. The successful candidate in each position will provide excellent customer service to all ages as they process and shelve materials, assist patrons with their accounts, assist patrons using computers and digital resources, and promote library programs and services.    These positions work 18 hours per week, including nights and weekends, plus 4 hours (1:00-5:00p) on scheduled Sundays. These positions are also scheduled to work every other Saturday. Examples of duties Circulation/information services including: checking books in and out; registering patrons for library cards; registering patrons for voter registration cards. Take fines for overdue books. Assist in keeping daily statistics. Develops and maintains a working knowledge about the organization and care of library materials, library services and programs. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED required; supplemented by six or more months work experience involving public interaction/customer service. Preferred Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, with a genuine enjoyment of working with the public. Ability to work effectively in a team environment while managing high-volume patron interactions. Great computer skills and a willingness to assist patrons with basic technology needs, including public computer navigation, Microsoft Office, email, downloading, scanning, and printing. Previous library experience preferred. Supplemental information Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
