Employees enjoy a dynamic and supportive work environment that fosters professional growth and development.  Basic Function An employee in this class provides varied legal services and advice on matters of moderate or significant scope and complexity.   Work involves the practice of administrative law and will require regular interaction with all divisions of the Office of Attorney General, as well as members of the public.  The employee in this position will be serving as an internal agency counsel for procurement and administrative matters.  As a Deputy Attorney General II (DAG II) gains experience, work increases in complexity and is performed with more independence. A Deputy Attorney General III (DAG III) will be assigned more complex and significant cases and works independently on most matters. A Deputy Attorney General IV (DAG IV) or Deputy Attorney General V (DAG V) works independently except in extraordinary cases. Examples of duties Performs highly advanced legal and administrative work in the OAG involving administrative and agency law Reviews and drafts inter- and intra- agency legal documents related to the OAG’s role as an administrative agency, such as: expert witness agreements, memoranda of understanding, task force agreements, interagency agreements, confidentiality agreements, common interest agreements, grant agreements, cost reimbursement agreements and settlement agreements Provides effective legal advice to the OAG on issues related to the formation, administration, and management of administrative agency programs including the development of program guidelines. Assists the Operations Division with current and ongoing procurement issues by reviewing, directing, and managing the creation of OAG contracts Conducts other legal research as requested Qualifications Deputy Attorney General II: Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work Deputy Attorney General III:  Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work Deputy Attorney General IV: Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work  Deputy Attorney General V: Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work Supplemental information Highest degree of professional ethics and integrity. Relevant work experience and excellent academic credentials, intelligence, judgment, common sense, strategic thinking, and analytical skills. Broad legal knowledge necessary to coordinate objectives between divisions of the OAG. Specific legal knowledge of and experience in administrative agency and procurement laws. The negotiation and drafting of contracts, interagency agreements, grant agreements, and memorandum of understanding. Ability to work with senior management and others across all divisions of the OAG to achieve common objectives.
