Hours are subject to change with academic calendar and/or program needs. POSITION SUMMARY  The Bridges Math and Science Tutor will support youth ages 10–18 with school assignments and special projects, providing academic guidance and resources to help students succeed. This role fosters academic discipline and encourages student commitment to improving homework completion and overall performance across school subjects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Facilitate small groups and/or one-on-one math or/and science comprehension sessions for students struggling in those subjects when necessary Check students' homework to ensure they have completed their assignments adequately Be cooperative with managing students and be prepared at all times to work diligently for the betterment of Heart of Los Angeles’ youth Be punctual and communicate any concerns or questions to the Bridges Staff Create and foster a positive academic/career-enriching environment for all youth (grades 6th-12th) Support Heart of Los Angeles in all areas of after-school programming Develop and implement academic assignments for students with low academic performance in order to enhance their learning and interest in the subject Gain and maintain knowledge of current educational issues/trends OTHER DUTIES  May perform other relevant duties as assigned   QUALIFICATIONS | TRAITS AND CHARACTERISTICS DESIRED   Currently pursuing a college degree, with successful completion of college-level English and Math coursework (grade of B or higher) Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred Experience working with middle- and high school-aged youth, modeling positive and compassionate behavior as a mentor and role model Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing A genuine enthusiasm for engaging and connecting with youth  Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community Experience supporting marginalized communities, and students from historically underserved or underrepresented communities Must pass CA DOJ Background check BENEFITS Employer-covered mental wellness benefit, including free virtual therapy, through First Stop Health EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION  This is a nonexempt position and is eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable law. Employees must accurately record all time worked and follow Heart of LA’s timekeeping and overtime-authorization procedures.  SCHEDULE AND PROGRAM AVAILABILITY This position requires availability to support Heart of LA  programming and organizational needs. Regular work includes later hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The position may also require occasional schedule adjustments, evenings, or weekends based on program activities, events, participant needs, and organizational priorities. All work time and scheduling will be administered in accordance with applicable law.  PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
