About the role

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at  University of Chicago Medicine  as a  Radiology Breast Imaging Sonographer  in the Radiology Department. Here, Under the direction of a Breast Imaging Radiologist, you will perform diagnostic quality Ultrasound imaging for interpretation and assist in Ultrasound guided procedures as assigned.  The technologist will provide appropriate patient care and recognize patient’s conditions essential for successful completion of the imaging procedures.    This position requires direct patient contact, excellent communication skills, including participation in constructive feedback, and the ability to work with initiative and accuracy. Responsibilities include but are not limited to imaging, patient education, data collection and maintaining ACR accreditation.  The services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.      Essential Job Functions:   Maintain competencies in Breast Imaging Interpretation skills to facilitate a comprehensive examination and an accurate presentation during radiologist review Maintain a quality review score at or above 85%  Participate and actively assist Physician/PA/APN with performance, scheduling of inpatient orders and correcting orders for biopsy procedures  Perform portable and ED studies for requested breast imaging  Independently perform all imaging studies Utilize EPIC to begin exams, end exams, add supply charges, verify orders, change orders as necessary and review patient chart for pertinent history Demonstrates responsibility for reviewing orders, recognizing correct orders based on clinical questions, and actively works to obtain orders for exams as necessary Active participation in department workflow with Team Lead to ensure timely completion of exams Properly utilize PACS for image presentation Exam completion volume commensurable with team members Actively participates in exam quality assurance by performing exams following department protocols as directed by the department Radiologist, Imaging Center Manager or Imaging Team Leader. Recognizes, reports, and documents malfunctions of technical equipment. Maintains physical work environment following MDI process to be in compliance with regulatory certifying agencies.     Required Qualifications:   High school graduate or equivalency required Satisfactory completion of formal Ultrasound training program through a CAAHEP approved school ARDMS or ARRT registered in Breast (B) ultrasound OR registered within one year of hire Minimum 1 year experience in breast imaging American Heart Association CPR/BLS training required Effective communication skills and excellent patient care skills required Handle high pressure, fast paced work environment Excellent teamwork     Position Details:   Job Type/FTE: Full-Time/1.0 FTE Shift:  Days  Work Locations:  Hyde Park Unit/Department:  Radiology – Breast Imaging CBA Code: Non-Union We’ve been at the forefront of medicine since 1899. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
