The University will not sponsor applicants for work visas (e.g., H-1B). Job Summary   Join a growing and dynamic program at The University of Southern Mississippi. The School of Kinesiology and Nutrition invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2027. Based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, this in-person position seeks an innovative and collaborative scholar with expertise in sport coaching, applications of motor development and/or motor learning, and/or coach development. The successful candidate will develop a productive research agenda, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students, and contribute to service. Candidates whose interests align with coach preparation, applied motor learning and development, or coach education are especially encouraged to apply. The School of Kinesiology and Nutrition serves more than 600 students and includes 27 faculty and staff. With five undergraduate programs, three master's programs, an active doctoral program, and state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities, the School offers a collaborative environment that supports excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Primary Duties and Responsibilities    Develop and maintain an active research agenda in sport coaching, applied motor development/motor learning, coach development, or related areas. Pursue scholarly dissemination through high-quality publications, presentations, and external funding opportunities. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the School in face-to-face and online formats. Collaborate with School faculty to enhance curriculum and continuous improvement processes required for accreditation. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students through teaching and research. Participate in school, university, professional, and community service activities. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree in Sport Coaching, Kinesiology, Sport Pedagogy, Motor Behavior, Exercise Science, Sport Science, or a closely related field (by August 2027). Evidence of potential to conduct and disseminate high-quality research.  Demonstrated potential to teach at the college level. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities   Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.   Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team of scientists. Preferred Qualifications Research/expertise in skill acquisition, applied motor behavior, athlete development, and/or sport pedagogy. Experience in coaching sport teams at the high school and/or collegiate level. Experience in teaching graduate courses at the senior college/university level across multiple instructional formats including online and face-to-face. Established or emerging focused program of research with evidence of scholarly productivity. An established research focus demonstrated through both publications and pursuit of extramural funding.
